Abia APC denies endorsing any governorship aspirant,

Political tension is rising in Abia State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) strongly denies explosive claims of a secret endorsement plot ahead of the 2027 governorship race, warning against misinformation capable of destabilizing the party.

The Abia State Working Committee (SWC) of the APC has denied endorsing any governorship aspirant, describing claims by Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu as false and misleading, while reaffirming its commitment to neutrality and credible primaries.

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State Chapter, has dismissed as “false, misleading, and baseless” allegations linking it to a purported plot to endorse a governorship aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections.

The reaction follows a press statement attributed to a governorship aspirant, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, who alleged that the SWC was involved in a planned meeting aimed at backing a preferred candidate for the party’s ticket.

In a strongly worded response, signed by Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary, APC, Abia State Chapter, the committee clarified that “at no time has the SWC endorsed any aspirant for the governorship ticket or any other elective position.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, the State Working Committee is not constitutionally empowered to endorse candidates in the manner being alleged. Our role is strictly administrative—to provide a neutral platform that guarantees fairness, transparency, and credibility in the party’s processes,” the statement read.

The committee emphasized that the only collective endorsement made at its level remains that of “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with national party obligations and cohesion.”

Reaffirming its position, the SWC stated that “neither the committee nor the enlarged State Executive Committee (EXCO) has endorsed any aspirant at any level.”

Under the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, the party reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, assuring members and aspirants of a level playing field.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that all aspirants are treated fairly and that the forthcoming primaries will be conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” the statement added.

The committee, however, cautioned against the spread of unverified claims, noting that such narratives could heighten tensions within the party.

“While it is not uncommon for aspirants to raise concerns—som itetimes for reassurance or strategic advantage—we urge all stakeholders to refrain from spreading unfounded allegations capable of causing unnecessary division,” it warned.

Clarifying its role further, the SWC noted that its presence at meetings convened by party leaders or stakeholders “must not be misconstrued as endorsement,” stressing that all actions are guided strictly by constitutional provisions.

The committee concluded by reaffirming its focus on party unity and electoral success.
“We remain committed to delivering victory for the APC at all levels, while ensuring a credible process that reflects the will of our membe everrs,” the statement concluded.
