Kaduna: Girl, 13 Dies 24 Hours After Release from Seven-Month Bandit Captivity

Released after nearly seven months in bandit captivity, 13-year-old Hasana Bulus was expected to begin a new chapter of her life. Tragically, she died just a day after reaching freedom, leaving fresh concerns over the human cost of insecurity in Kaduna State.

A 13-year-old girl, Hasana Bulus, has died barely 24 hours after regaining her freedom from bandits who held her captive for nearly seven months in Kaduna State.

Hasana was reportedly abducted from her home in Awon village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on April 20, 2026, alongside several other residents during a bandit attack.

She was released on November 2 and taken to a hospital in Kachia for medical attention but died the following day.

Reuben Buhari, a former aide to the late Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, disclosed the development, expressing concern over the tragic circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

According to Buhari, Hasana endured months of hardship and terrifying experiences while in captivity before her eventual release.

Her death comes amid renewed concerns over bandit attacks and abductions in parts of Kaduna State.

In a separate incident, bandits reportedly attacked members of Buhari’s extended family at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, killing two people and abducting several others.

Buhari disclosed that those affected included his cousins, their children and grandchildren.

Among those reportedly abducted were Usman Galadima, 55; Amina Ahmadu, 52; Alice Ahmadu, 45; Haske Ahmadu, 18; Magdalene Marcus, 35; Gloria Marcus, six months; Lovene Ishaya, 25; Happy Steven, 23; and Zillah Steven, one year.

Others were Afiniki Irimiya, 30, and her one-year-old daughter, Jeneth Irimiya; Laraba Irimiya, 32; Sim Shagari, 30; Yangal Shagari, three; Musa Genesis, one; and Miracle Genesis, 21.

Two unidentified infants, a four-month-old girl and a five-month-old boy, were also listed among those abducted.

The latest attack adds to the growing concerns over the safety of residents in communities affected by banditry in Kaduna State.
