Plateau Kidnap: Troops Rescue Victim as Abductions Raise Concern
A kidnap victim has been rescued unharmed in Plateau State, but reports of at least eight abductions in one month and millions of naira paid in ransom have left residents worried about their safety.
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have rescued a kidnap victim unharmed in Gura Topp, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, following reports of repeated abductions in the area.
The rescue comes amid concerns over the growing number of kidnapping incidents along the Lo Pam Dyet, Gura Topp and Rahol Kanang axis, where at least eight people were reportedly abducted within one month.
Family sources said millions of naira had been paid as ransom to secure the release of some of the victims, adding to the financial pressure on families already struggling with the fear and uncertainty surrounding the abductions.
According to a report by security publication Zagazola Makama, troops of Sector 1 of OPEP responded to an abduction report in Gura Topp on October 23, 2026.
The report stated that the suspected kidnappers fled before the troops arrived, allowing the victim to be rescued unharmed.
Efforts were reportedly ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, security measures have reportedly been intensified across the affected communities as authorities seek to curb further criminal activities.
Residents said motorcycles and tricycles were being intercepted in parts of the area, with restrictions and enforcement measures taking effect from 7 p.m.
The measures are part of the heightened security presence in communities affected by the recent incidents.
Despite the reported increase in security operations, concerns remain over the frequency of abductions and the impact on residents, particularly families who have had to negotiate for the release of their loved ones.
The latest rescue has brought some relief, but the reported spate of kidnappings continues to raise questions about the safety of residents along the affected communities.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued detailing the total number of recent abductions or confirming any arrests in connection with the incidents.
