Interviewer: Tell us exactly what happened from the very beginning. How did it all start, and how did you get together?

Samuel: It was my friend, Simon. His name is Emmanuel. He explained that we were going to a hospital, but I didn’t know what for because anything he told me, I would just do what he asked me to do.

He then joined me with David. David took me inside town, where I met an agent called Ben. Ben then took us to the hospital for some tests.

After some days, the agent called us and said that my test did not match with the person who was supposed to receive my kidney.

Later on, Emmanuel called the agent. The agent told him that we should call him after two days and that he would get back to us.

After two days, Emmanuel called him again. He then gave me the phone, and I spoke to the agent. After I spoke to him, he told me that they had gotten someone whose kidney requirements matched with mine and that the person would come the next day.

Then Emmanuel took me to Ben’s place inside town. After we got there, Ben said they were going to change my name and that I would be bearing Hassan Abubakar.

From there, they took us to the Federal High Court, where they did the affidavit. After that, we went to the hospital and went into the clinic.

That night, we signed some documents at the hospital. Later that night, around 10 to 11 p.m., they came and gave us money in dollars.

After they gave us the money in dollars, when I was going to enter the theatre, they gave Emmanuel the money to hold.

After I came out of the theatre, later in the evening, Emmanuel came back. He had already gone to change the money. He then bought two phones, two power banks and two outfits. He gave me one of each.

We spent almost one week in the hospital. After they discharged us from the hospital, the next day Emmanuel took me to a hotel for two days.

After we spent two days at the hotel, he took me to Cross River State. We spent almost three months in Cross River.

Then, at a point, he told me that the money had finished. He said we didn’t have transport money to come back. He then collected my phone and sold it so that we would have transport to come back to Abuja.

Interviewer: So he squandered the money?

Samuel: Yes, ma.

Interviewer: Exactly when did this happen, before they took you to Cross River? And did he tell you exactly what he was taking you for? Were you convinced?

Samuel: He just told me that there was no issue with it, that if we went, I could do anything that I had to do and that I would not have any issue.

Interviewer: So you were actually told that they were going to remove your kidney?

Samuel: Yes, he told me.

Interviewer: And you consented to it?

Samuel: Yes, ma.

Interviewer: So where did this happen?

Samuel: In Wellington Hospital.

Interviewer: When exactly did this happen?

Samuel: Almost April.

Interviewer: So, where’s Emmanuel?

Samuel: Oh, okay, this is Emmanuel.
