AHEAD 2027: Ukwa La Ngwa Elders Back APC Governorship Candidate Eric Opah
With the 2027 Abia governorship election already shaping up as a major political contest, the Ukwa La Ngwa Council of Elders has made its position clear: the group says APC candidate Chief Eric Opah has the experience and capacity to lead the state.
The Ukwa La Ngwa Council of Elders has endorsed APC governorship candidate Chief Eric Opah ahead of the 2027 Abia State governorship election, citing his experience in business, industrial development, human capital empowerment and public service. The group has also urged APC stakeholders to unite behind Opah and work towards victory in 2027.
ABIA — The 2027 governorship race in Abia State is beginning to draw stronger political alignments, with the Ukwa La Ngwa Council of Elders throwing its weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Eric Opah.
The elders said Opah has the experience, competence and vision needed to provide effective leadership and drive economic growth in the state.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Council, Dr. Max Nduagibe, and the Secretary-General, Dr. Eugene Nwoha, the group described Opah’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate as a strategic choice ahead of the 2027 election.
Ukwa La Ngwa Elders Highlight Opah’s Experience
According to the council, Opah’s background as an industrialist and entrepreneur gives him valuable experience that could be applied to the management of Abia’s economy.
The elders said his record in business, industrial development and human capital empowerment could help bring a fresh approach to governance.

They stated, “His experience, competence and commitment to public service place him in a strong position to provide purposeful, transparent and people-oriented governance.”
The council further said an administration led by Opah would be expected to focus on key areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, commerce and employment creation.
‘Abia Needs Leadership That Can Unlock Its Potential’
The elders maintained that Abia has significant human and economic resources that require purposeful leadership to translate them into tangible benefits for residents.
“Abia requires leadership that can translate its enormous human and economic potential into tangible opportunities for the people,” the council said.
The group therefore called on Abians, especially APC members and supporters, to unite behind Opah and work towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 governorship election.
It also appealed to APC stakeholders to set aside internal differences and build a united and effective political structure ahead of the poll.
The endorsement is expected to add to the growing political activities ahead of the 2027 Abia governorship election, as political parties and stakeholders intensify efforts to mobilise support across the state.
