Polaris Bank Inspires Children With Fun-Filled Workplace Experience

What happens when children step into the world where their parents work? For some young guests at Polaris Bank, it became a day of discovery, laughter, learning and inspiration as they explored banking and saw their parents in a new light.

Polaris Bank has given some of its employees’ children a rare glimpse into the world of work, turning an ordinary office visit into a memorable lesson in banking, teamwork, saving and career possibilities. The initiative, tagged “Bring Your Child to Work,” brought together children aged six and above for a day of fun, learning and workplace discovery in Lagos.

What is Polaris Bank’s “Bring Your Child to Work” programme?
Polaris Bank’s “Bring Your Child to Work” programme is an employee engagement initiative that allows children of staff to visit the bank, learn about banking, meet employees, explore different departments and understand what their parents do at work.

Polaris Bank Gives Children Firsthand Banking Experience

Polaris Bank hosted some children of its employees in Lagos as part of efforts to deepen employee engagement and create meaningful experiences for staff and their families.

The programme welcomed children aged six years and above. They were given the opportunity to see where their parents work, meet their colleagues and learn more about their daily responsibilities.

The children were selected through an internal trivia draw conducted among members of staff.

Throughout the programme, the young participants took part in activities designed to encourage learning, creativity, teamwork, networking and curiosity.

One of the major highlights was a guided tour of the bank’s premises.

The children visited the banking hall and several departments. As a result, they gained a firsthand understanding of the banking environment and saw how different teams contribute to the bank’s operations.

They also interacted with employees and learnt about the different career roles available within a financial institution.

‘Be Curious, Ask Questions and Have Fun’ — Polaris Bank CEO

Speaking at the event, Kayode Lawal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank, welcomed the children and encouraged them to make the most of the experience.

Lawal said:

“At Polaris Bank, we believe that work is more than meetings and desks. It is about solving problems, helping people, making life easier, learning, and making a meaningful contribution. So, while you are here today, be curious, ask questions, learn, and most importantly, have fun.”

The CEO was represented at the event by Okanwaju Oyekunle, Head of Human Resources.

Oyekunle said the programme was designed to help the children understand their parents’ professional lives. It was also intended to expose them to different career possibilities.

“Who knows? Perhaps one day, some of you will become bankers, entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, technology experts, or even leaders of great organisations,” he said.

Children Learn the Basics of Banking

Another major attraction was an interactive session led by Abimbola Ozomah, Executive Director, Corporate & Investment Banking, Polaris Bank.

Ozomah introduced the children to the fundamentals of banking in a simple and engaging way.

During the session, the children learnt how banks operate. They were also taught the importance of saving money and developing responsible financial habits.

In addition, they learnt about the role banks play in helping individuals and businesses manage their finances.

The interactive format allowed the children to ask questions and share what they understood. This made the session both educational and entertaining.

Workplace Visit Promotes Teamwork and Friendship

The children were also encouraged to make new friends during the programme.

At different stages, they were asked to share who they had met and what they had learnt about the banking environment.

Consequently, the experience went beyond a simple visit to their parents’ workplace. It became an opportunity for the children to interact, explore and learn together.

For participating parents, the programme offered a chance to share an important part of their daily lives with their children.

It also helped parents explain the value of work, responsibility, collaboration and service.

Polaris Bank Strengthens Employee Engagement

The “Bring Your Child to Work” initiative further highlights Polaris Bank’s focus on employee wellbeing and engagement.

The bank recognises that employees’ professional and family lives are closely connected. Therefore, creating opportunities for families to understand and experience the workplace can help strengthen employees’ sense of belonging.

The initiative also promotes curiosity and continuous learning. Children were encouraged to ask questions, explore their surroundings and consider the many career paths available to them.

For the young participants, the experience offered far more than a tour of a bank.

It gave them an opportunity to see their parents as professionals, understand the work they do and gain an early introduction to the world of banking.

More importantly, the experience may have planted new career dreams in the minds of some of the children.
