GOMEP-NG has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervening in the Osun State financial impasse and supporting the unfreezing of the state’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). ABUJA — The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention in the Osun State financial impasse, describing the move as timely and statesmanlike.

The Guild said the intervention, which led to the unfreezing of the state’s accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), helped prevent a deeper constitutional and administrative crisis in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, GOMEP-NG said President Tinubu demonstrated leadership by intervening at a critical moment when the financial situation could have affected governance and public service delivery in Osun State.

According to the Guild, the President’s intervention reflected his “fatherly disposition” and commitment to national stability.

GOMEP-NG stressed that elected governments must be allowed to perform their constitutional duties without unnecessary institutional disruptions. However, it added that legal processes must continue to be followed where necessary.

The Guild also commended Nigerians, civil society organisations, media organisations and other stakeholders who raised concerns over the freezing of the Osun State accounts.

It said their response showed the importance of active citizen participation in protecting democratic values, constitutional order and good governance.

“GOMEP-NG believes that the peaceful resolution of issues affecting governance is always in the best interest of the nation. The President’s intervention has further demonstrated the importance of dialogue, restraint and respect for democratic institutions,” the Guild said.

The Guild further urged public institutions to exercise their statutory powers with fairness and professionalism.

It called for strict adherence to the rule of law, warning that actions capable of disrupting governance or causing hardship to innocent citizens should be avoided.

GOMEP-NG also reaffirmed its commitment to responsible journalism, democratic accountability and national development.
The Guild urged political leaders and public institutions to place the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations while pursuing justice, peace and sustainable development.
