A leadership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central ended in violence after a clash among party members and political appointees left several people injured. The incident, which occurred before shocked stakeholders at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Uvwie Local Government Area, has drawn widespread condemnation, with the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) calling for an immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible.

GOMEP-NG has condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of everyone responsible.

EFFURUN — The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has condemned the violent disruption of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta Central leadership meeting, describing the incident as “unfortunate” and incompatible with the conduct expected of political office holders.

The meeting, held at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, turned chaotic after a clash involving party members and government officials reportedly left several people injured, including the Delta State Government’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Protocol, Mr. Mudi, popularly known as “Temple.”

According to eyewitnesses, the violence erupted following a disagreement allegedly linked to events surrounding the recent burial rites of the late Koto at Okwagba. However, the exact cause of the confrontation had yet to be officially established as of the time of filing this report.

Videos circulating on social media captured scenes of confusion, with chairs, bottles and tables allegedly used during the altercation. In one of the videos, Mr. Temple was seen attempting to flee while he was allegedly being attacked by some participants.

Sources at the venue alleged that tension had been building between supporters of the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, and associates of the governor’s SSA on Protocol before the situation escalated into violence.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that Mr. Temple sustained injuries and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. There were also conflicting reports about the condition of Comrade Izeze. While some sources claimed he was injured, others maintained that security operatives safely escorted him out of the venue.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Delta State Government, the APC nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident.

Reacting to the development, GOMEP-NG, in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, called for a comprehensive investigation into the violence.
The organisation urged the Delta State Government and security agencies to identify everyone involved in the attack and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

According to the media body, the violent confrontation, which occurred during a leadership meeting convened to strengthen unity within the APC in Delta Central, could damage public confidence in the party if swift and decisive action is not taken.

“GOMEP-NG strongly condemns every act of political violence and intimidation. Democratic engagement must be guided by dialogue, mutual respect and the rule of law, not by force or aggression,” the statement said.

The organisation further urged political appointees, party leaders and supporters to exercise restraint, embrace peaceful conflict resolution and uphold democratic principles, stressing that violence has no place in Nigeria’s political process.

The group also appealed to security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation and ensure accountability, noting that justice would help restore public confidence and discourage similar incidents in the future.
