ALLEGED HOMOSEXUALITY PROMOTION AND SPONSORSHIP: Police Declares the Country Director of DEDERC Nigeria, Jerry Nwigwe Wanted

The Nigeria Police is currently making efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of the Country Director of DEDERC Nigeria, Jerry Nwigwe for immediate arrest, over the latter’s alleged indiscriminate involvement in homosexuality, as well as promotion and sponsorship of the prohibited act.

The Nigerian Police Force in Nigeria has declared one Mr. Jerry Nwigwe wanted for allegedly promoting, sponsoring and participating in homosexual activities contrary to the Federal Government of Nigeria’s same-sex marriage prohibition Act 2013, which was signed into law in 2014.

The Police in Calabar, Cross River State got an intelligent report that Mr. Nwigwe through his organization funded a gay party event which was secretly organized in the month of June in a hotel at Ekorinum where the organizers disguised as a birthday party event. Recently Cross River State House of Assembly through the Speaker vowed to deal ruthlessly with the sponsors or promoters of the event.

The Police got the news of the gay party and swung into action. After preliminary investigation, the Police has placed Jerry Nwigwe on a wanted list and his organization, Debate And Development Resources Center ( DEDERC) Nigeria has been placed on a security watch list until further notice.

According to the interim police investigation report as released by the state Police Command, Calabar, Nigeria, the police division had reportedly received information on June 30, 2023 at about 14:00 hours and swung into action. The Police was able to make some arrest and confessional statements were gotten from some of the young men and women involved in the party.

According to the report, following the information received, entry were made and the case referred for detailed investigation.

“We declare Mr. Jerry Nwigwe wanted in connection with the violation of the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2013, which was passed on January 7, 2014,” the police said in a statement, while urging other security agencies to apprehend the fleeing Jerry Nwigwe.

The police statement said: “We hereby declare Mr. Jerry Nwigwe wanted for violating the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2013. He was alleged to have engaged in sponsoring and promoting homosexual practices in Nigeria through his organization as some of the apprehended participants at the gay party confessed to our agents after their arrest as working as volunteers to the organization.

After much investigation and interrogation, the Police also got a report from some of the boys arrested that they were arrested by the Police in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State with the Director of DEDERC Nigeria, Jerry Nwigwe in one of their gatherings at one popular hotel in Uyo , Akwa Ibom state in April 2023 during their planning for the meeting.

“Anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of Mr. Jerry Nwigwe should please contact the nearest Police Station or law enforcement agency for proper prosecution,” the statement adds.
