All roads led the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), Warri, in Delta State, yesterday,a Thursday, as no fewer than one million supporters of the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, gathered for his official declaration to contest for the 2023 gubernatorial seat.

Omo-Agege, a proud son of Orogun community, in Ughelli North council area, Delta Central Senatorial district of the oil-rich state, is contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the chairman, Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, accused the incumbent Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of making merchandise of the state and marginalising some parts, as he urged Deltans to support him in actualising his 2023 vision.

It will be good for the people of Delta North to also feel the presence of government, because “what is good for the Goose is also good for the Gander.

He said: “Because we will not fold our hands and allow Okowa and co to continue to marginalise us. If you go to Delta North today, Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East, there’s no presence of government yet that they contribute immensely to the economy of the nation; Also, if you go to Ndukpa LGA of the state, there’s nothing on ground despite being a major oil producing area.

“All of the 13% derivation money we receive, it is a function of their contribution to the economy of this country, but if you go to Ndokwa nation today, Okowa has continued to marginalize the people of Ndokwa nation; Is that good? Should we allow that to continue?” He asked.

Furthermore, he regretted that the various local Governments in the state that facilitated the emergence of Okowa as the Governor had been relegated to the background.

“If you go to Aniocha south, Osimili North and South and the Isoko nation in Delta South, it was these local Governments that fought for Okowa to bring him to power but today, if you go to these four local Governments, you will not feel Okowa’s presence, is that fair?

Omo-Agege asserted that the incumbent Governor, had not impacted positively on the people, lamenting that, “all we have here is a state polytechnic that he recently upgraded to a University on paper only, is that fair? If you go to Ijaw nation today there’s nothing on ground and those are the people that contribute immensely to our economy.

“The time has come when you have to take your own destiny child in your hand and say that “enough is enough”, he thundered.

Corroborating, an Associate Professor of Medicine and Family Health, and President Jesu Marie Empowerment Foundation (JMEF),Olorogun Dr. (Mrs.) Rukevwe Ugwumba, who expressed utter confidence in the Deputy Senate President, insisted that it was the turn of the Urhobo to produce the next Governor.

Expressing her confidence in the aspirant, Okere-Urhobo kingdom, Warri South Local government area of Delta State, South-south Nigeria, said: “If I didn’t have confidence in Omo-Agege, I wouldn’t be here.

“As for the event, it was awesome. I’m from Ughelli North and it’s the turn of Urohbos and Ughelli North will produce the next Governor in the person of His Excellency, Sen. Omo-Agege. He has been tested and trusted and he is ready with his edge agenda, to change Delta and give us a new Delta. That’s what we’re yearning for.

Ugwumba, a one-time Special Adviser on Health Matters to former Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan reiterated the unalloyed support of the people of Urhobo to the Omo-Agege, as she maintained that the latter had overtime displayed expertise in leadership, as his position in government, according to her, has been glaringly impactful.

“He is currently doing everything right and has ensured that Leaders isn’t going to overwhelm him, he needs to keep his head down, and with us on his side, I’m sure it’s going to be an easy way for him’.

Also, Chief Dan Agbada, Global Coordinator of Agege Political Vanguard who prided in the large number of the people gathered, advised Deltans to do the needful, saying, “it is time to leave the suffering we have endured for 25-years. It’s time to see the light.

“Look at the crowd we have here, we have captured more 1.8million people.
“And like he said, he’s a man that loves light and when light comes, darkness disappears. PDP has disappeared from Delta’s state, and that I can assure you come 2023”.

Meanwhile, attendance at the ceremony are Senator Peter Nwaboshi (Delta North); member representing Udu, Ughelli North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Waive; former Edo APC governorship candidate Pastor Ize-Iyamu; Delta APC leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; APC chieftain, Chief Frank Kokori and ex-APC chairman in Delta, Prophet Jones Erue.

Others are APC Delta Central senatorial aspirant, Chief Ede Dafinone; APC chairmen across the 25 LGAs, several APC support groups among others.
