The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL has bluntly frowned at the recent release of some Boko Haram Insurgents in the North by the Nigerian military, describing it as total aberration and a travesty of the law.

Famous Reporters recalls that the military had, last week, set free a total number of 1,400 arrested Boko Haram Insurgents to go back their base and continue with their normal lives.


Reportedly, the sordid incident has thrown some well-meaning Nigerians into a deep state of bewilderment, with many wondering the aim of the act, as most of the freed suspects, we learnt have returned to the horrific activity.

In a release jointly signed by
Chief Goodluck Ibem and Comrade Kanice Igwe,
President-General and
Secretary-General of COSEYL, respectively, the group  as they called on the chief of army staff to re-arrest all those boko Haram terrorists.

The release reads:

“The release of 1400 boko Haram insurgents by the military is a total aberration and a travesty of the law. We condemn this action by the military authorities”.

The release of this insurgents who have killed so many civilians, military officers and soldiers , Air Force personnels and other security agents is totally unacceptable.

“This goes a long way to show that the military authorities have no value for the lives of those soldiers , police officers and civilians who were killed by these boko Haram insurgents”.

“How can the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukru Yusuf Buratai recruit people who are enemies to the state back to the mist of the same people they are killing. It means that the military authorities is not sincere in his fight to end the havoc caused by these insurgents”.

“It is disheartening to see that the military showed all his Force against armless biafra agitators but when they saw Boko Haram terrorists with dangerous arms and ammunitions they arrested them pampered them and release them to go and cause more havoc”.

‘This boko Haram terrorists that were recruited into the military will now be working in synergy with their boko Haram leaders to kill more people. They will be sending intelligence to their leaders who will use such intelligence against the Nigerian state”.

“To release this Boko Haram terrorists without trial simply means to spite on the graves of those vibrant soldiers that were killed by this insurgents. It means that the Chief of Army Staff has no value for the lives of those military officers that died fighting the terrorists”.

“The way and manner these boko haram terrorists beheaded Christians and soldiers they captured, one begin to wonder if their unconditional release and recruitment into the Army, is a way of paying them back for a job well done”.

“In 2017, the Nigerian Army invaded Afara-Ukwu village in Umuahia, Abia state the home town of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu and killed so many armless youths simply because they are Biafran agitators. It has never been reported that IPOB members attacked any soldier or security agent not to talk of killing any soldier or security agent”.

“Do we have a different law for the north west and north east zone and a different one for the South East zone? This is a question the federal government should answer”.

“We call on the chief of army staff to re-arrest all those boko Haram terrorists that were released and try them according to the law. The law is no respecter of persons. The law must take its full course”.
