The Association of Former Elected Councillors of Abia State (1999–2022) has unanimously endorsed entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, as its consensus candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a solidarity visit to Dr. Anyaso at his country home in Igbere, where the group described him as a tested grassroots mobilizer with a strong record of humanitarian service.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the State Coordinator, Hon. Chief Tony Agbanyim, stated that the decision was driven by Dr. Anyaso’s “consistent empathy for the downtrodden, sustained philanthropy, and impactful youth empowerment initiatives.”
According to Agbanyim, “We have carefully observed Dr. Anyaso’s contributions through the Chima Anyaso Foundation and his personal interventions in healthcare, community development, and grassroots empowerment. Despite not holding public office, his impact has been profound and far-reaching.”
The group further commended the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, reaffirming unwavering support for his re-election bid in 2027.
“Governor Otti has redefined governance in Abia State, restored public confidence, and demonstrated what true leadership means. For the first time, the people are genuinely feeling the impact of governance,” Agbanyim added.
The former councillors pledged to leverage their grassroots network to mobilize support for both Dr. Anyaso and Governor Otti.
“We are fully committed to your aspiration. We will mobilize massively to ensure victory in Bende Federal Constituency and secure the Governor’s re-election in 2027,” he assured.
Responding, Dr. Anyaso expressed deep appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as “organic and deeply symbolic,” coming from grassroots leaders.
“This endorsement is a clarion call for greater service. It strengthens my resolve to do more for our people,” he said.
He urged Abians to sustain their support for Governor Otti, emphasizing that the ongoing development across the state is “unprecedented and must be consolidated through continuity in leadership.”
Dr. Anyaso also used the occasion to formally declare his intention to contest for the Bende Federal Constituency seat.
“This is the right time for me to represent my people at the National Assembly. I have patiently waited for eight years in the interest of equity. Now, it is the turn of Umunna to produce the next representative for Bende Federal Constituency,” he stated.
He added, “I am fully prepared to offer quality representation and deliver the dividends of democracy that Ndi Bende truly deserves.”
In a moment of reflection, Dr. Anyaso apologized on behalf of past administrations for the hardship endured by former councillors due to unpaid entitlements.
“It is unfortunate that some of our colleagues suffered and even lost their lives due to neglect. This must never happen again,” he noted.
The event climaxed with a formal motion adopting Dr. Anyaso as the consensus candidate, moved by Hon. Godwin Uchendu Ndom and seconded by Hon. Prince Kalu, receiving unanimous approval.
Dr. Anyaso also declared support for collaborative efforts between the “Otti Again 2027 Movement” and the “Otti or Nothing” initiative championed by the former councillors.
