2027: Datti Baba-Ahmed Rejects ADC Vows Loyalty to Labor Party
Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed rejects the African Democratic Congress, describes its coalition as “disgruntled politicians,” and vows to remain loyal to the Labour Party ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.”
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former vice-presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party (LP), distancing himself from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Baba-Ahmed, who was the running mate to Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, said he has no intention of defecting from the Labour Party despite recent political realignments.
Speaking on Wednesday at a press conference held at the Labour Party National Headquarters in Abuja, the former Kaduna North lawmaker made it clear that he would not follow Obi’s decision to leave the party.
“I am not convinced by the ADC,” Baba-Ahmed said, describing members of the coalition backing the party as “disgruntled politicians.”
Aged 56, Baba-Ahmed stressed that his political conviction remains firmly rooted in the Labour Party, on whose platform he contested the 2023 election, which was won by Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Peter Obi, who contested and lost the presidency in 2023, officially exited the Labour Party nearly two years after the election and has since aligned with the ADC, a coalition-backed platform seeking to challenge the ruling APC ahead of 2027.
However, Baba-Ahmed insisted that he would chart a different course, pledging to make himself available to contribute to Nigeria’s progress ahead of the next general polls.
