Washington, D.C. — In a decisive step toward global advocacy for the safety, dignity, and freedom of Nigerians, Stephen Osemwegie, President of Save Nigeria Group USA, has continued high-level engagement with top U.S. policymakers, reaffirming the organization’s unwavering mission: to help end insecurity, mass displacement, and religious freedom violations in Nigeria—for all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

On January 13, 2026, Save Nigeria Group USA leadership attended a major hearing at the United States Capitol Hill, convened by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in partnership with congressional leaders and international stakeholders. The hearing, titled:
“Religious Freedom Violations Abroad, with Nigerian Christian Persecution and Displacement in Sharp Focus,”
placed Nigeria squarely at the center of U.S. policy discussions on human rights, insecurity, and international religious freedom.
This was not just another conference. It was a clear signal that Nigeria’s crisis is now firmly on the radar of America’s highest institutions of power.
High-Level Meeting with Congressman Riley Moore
On the sidelines of the hearing, Stephen Osemwegie held an in-depth meeting with the Honorable Riley Moore, U.S. Congressman from West Virginia and President Donald Trump’s designated Congressional lead on Nigeria.

Their discussion covered critical issues, including:

  • The urgent need for a stronger U.S. response against ISIS affiliates and extremist camps,
  • Strategic U.S.–Nigeria security partnerships,
  • Congressman Moore’s December 2025 visit to Nigeria, including his direct engagement with victims of terror attacks at IDP camps in Benue State,
  • And the necessity of ensuring that truth, evidence, and survivor testimonies reach the highest levels of the U.S. Government.

According to Osemwegie, Congressman Moore reaffirmed his commitment, stating clearly that:
“President Trump means what he says about defending religious freedom, and that the United States must remain actively engaged in the protection of vulnerable communities in Nigeria and around the world.”

Save Nigeria Group USA will continue to work closely with Congressman Moore’s office to ensure that Nigeria’s reality is not filtered through political convenience, but through truth, justice, and the lived experiences of victims.

Engagement with USCIRF Leadership
During the hearing, Save Nigeria Group USA also met with the leadership of USCIRF, including:

  • Chair Vicky Hartzler,
  • Vice Chair Asif Mahmood,
  • And other senior commissioners and congressional stakeholders.
    Discussions focused on:
  • The strategic importance of Nigeria to Africa and global stability,
  • The need for continued U.S. attention on Nigeria,
  • And why protecting religious freedom and addressing insecurity must remain central to U.S.–Nigeria relations.
    The message was clear:
Nigeria cannot be abandoned. The cost is too high—not only for Nigerians, but for global peace and security.

Our Mission: A Nigeria Where Everyone Is Safe

Save Nigeria Group USA wants to be absolutely clear to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora:
This is not about Christians versus Muslims. This is about human dignity versus violence. This is about freedom versus fear.

Millions of Nigerians are suffering today:

  • Christians targeted in villages,
  • Muslims who oppose Boko Haram, ISWAP, and violent extremism also murdered,
  • Entire communities displaced,
  • Students kidnapped,
  • Farmers driven from their land,
  • Families broken apart.
Our vision is simple and just:
Nigerians deserve the same “first right” Americans fiercely protect — the freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, and freedom to live without fear.

Beyond Advocacy: Humanitarian Action and Global Outreach
Save Nigeria Group USA is not only advocating at high political levels. We are also expanding efforts to:

  • Support aid delivery to displaced persons, with the first batch of food items already delivered to IDP camps in Edo and Abuja area, in December ahead of Christmas 2025.
  • Partner with grassroots organizations serving victims,
  • Amplify the voices of survivors globally,
  • Mobilize the Nigerian diaspora for structured impact.
In the coming months, Save Nigeria Group USA will launch a global engagement outreach project spanning:
  • United States cities
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Europe
  • Africa — with strong focus on Nigeria
Within Nigeria, we intend to engage:
  • Civil society organizations,
  • Faith-based organizations (churches and mosques alike),
  • Traditional leaders,
  • Student movements,
  • Community leaders,
  • State governors,
  • State and National Assemblies,
  • And the Presidency itself.
    Because the truth is unavoidable:
No lasting solution can be achieved without honest national dialogue, courageous leadership, and the collective will of the people.

We Mean It When We Say: We Want to Save Nigeria.

Stephen Osemwegie, an Edo State indigene based in the United States, is not fighting a distant cause.
This is personal.
This is national.
This is generational.
Save Nigeria Group USA exists because too many voices were silenced.
Too many lives were lost.
Too many leaders looked away.
We refuse to look away.

From Capitol Hill to communities across Nigeria, from Washington to Abuja, from policy rooms to IDP camps — the message remains consistent:
Nigeria is worth saving. Nigerians are worth protecting. Freedom is worth fighting for.
And this fight will continue — with faith, with courage, with truth, and with relentless commitment.

Save Nigeria Group USA:
Advocacy. Accountability. Action.
We will not stop until Nigeria is safe again.
