US Congressional Delegation Speaks on Meeting With Ribadu
“A US Congressional delegation has held a high-level meeting with Nigeria’s NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, urging “concrete action” on insecurity. Congressman Riley Moore praises the rescue of 100 Catholic schoolchildren and says a Nigeria–US joint security framework is taking shape.”
A visiting United States Congressional delegation has disclosed details of its high-level security meeting with Nigerian government officials during a strategic visit aimed at assessing the country’s worsening security challenges.
The delegation, which arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, was received in Abuja by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries. The renewed consultations follow growing concerns in Washington over alleged targeted attacks on Christian communities in parts of Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, Riley Moore, the US Congressman representing West Virginia’s Second District and a member of the delegation, described the meeting with Nigerian authorities as “productive and positive.”
Moore said the discussions covered “concrete steps and actions” required to strengthen security nationwide, adding that successful implementation of the recommendations would “enhance security across the country for all Nigerians.”
He acknowledged what he described as the Nigerian government’s “openness and willingness” to work closely with the US to address escalating violence. However, he stressed that such openness “has to translate to concrete action.”
The lawmaker also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the rescue of 100 Catholic schoolchildren, saying the operation was “a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation” and evidence of its commitment to the president’s emergency security measures.
Moore further revealed that Washington’s “sense of urgency” regarding insecurity in Nigeria was well-received by Nigerian officials, noting that “a cooperative security framework is within sight.” He highlighted the establishment of a joint Nigeria–US task force as a significant step forward.
“There is much work still to be done, but things are moving in the right direction,” he said, expressing optimism about continued collaboration.
“Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria,” he concluded.
