Traditional rulers in Imo State have unanimously implored the founders of the two security outfits in the South East region, hence Ebube Agu established by South East Governors and Eastern Security Network, (ESN) of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, to work collaboratively with each other towards the protection of lives and property of the Easterners.
The traditional rulers who spoke to Famous Reporters, shortly after a closed doors meeting at the palace of Eze Imo, at Mbari Street, Owerri, the state’s capital, argued that because the two security outlets were working in the interest of the entire region, hence the need for a synergy between both.
In his views, the Chairman, Imo State Traditional Institution and Community Policing, HRM Eze Dr. Emmanuel C. Okeke, Eze Udo (ii) of Amaifeke Ancient Kingdom pointed out that region was in desperate need of a formidable security force following the recent uncertainties evident in the area.
Eze Udo (ii) who commended South East Governors for the formation of Ebube Agu, noted that it was long expected of them, as he admitted that the hike in insecurity in the region had spurred the Governors into action.
“The state Governors have set up a security outfit that will serve the interest of the South East. All traditional rulers are happy that we are now in charge of the security of our people.”
Also, Eze Clifford Amadi of Amawuihe Autonomous Community, in Mbaitolu LGA who bemoaned the present state of insecurity in the region, noted that all hands must be on deck to save the region from envisaged drowning.
He said, “the security is porous; security is not tight. Anything they can do to beef it up including the Ebube Agu outfit, they have just floated is a good development.’
Corroborating, HRH Eze Peter Eke Ekwuzie, Chairman, Traditional Institution and community policing, Ideato South LGA commended South East Governors for setting up the outfit saying it will help in combating terrorism in the area.
Eze Ekwuzie advised the initiators of Ebube Agu to work in collaboration with the already existing Eastern Security Network, formed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB for adequate protection of lives and property of the Easterners.
“That is what we’ve been asking for in order to form a formidable force so as to combat the terrorists who are terrorising the Easterners. I appreciate what they’ve done and I want them to collaborate with Nnamdi Kanu’s Eastern Security Network for effective protection of lives and property of Southeasterners.”
Also, Eze Dr. Clinton Uboegbulam Anumudu the (vi) of Umuorenje autonomous Community, in Owerri Municipal advised South East Governors to merge Ebube Agu with Eastern Security Network, ESN, saying that both activities are in the interest of Ndigbo.
“Ebube Agu should be merged with ESN because what they’re doing is in the interest of all. Let them in the interest of Ndigbo bring all together including the one formed by Igbo National Council, Ije Agu. Let them come together as one and they will be able to achieve all they want”.
Similarly, HRM Eze Prof. Peter Ebigbo of Amofuo autonomous Community, in Oru West described the security situation in the area as a dangerous one, saying, ‘we must handle it carefully and on no condition should we fight one another.”
Asked whether he still has confidence in the Governors, he said: “I have confidence in our Governors but there are challenges they’re facing and they might not get all what they want from me federal government. One should judge somebody based on the reality the person finds himself. People will not expect people to do the impossible”, he added.
Also, HRH Eze Festus Ifeanyichukwu Orji, Obi of Otulu autonomous Community both in Oru West explained that they were yet to ascertain the workability of the new outfit, hence Ebube Agu.
Hear him: “We’re just hearing about the name but haven’t known its workability except when it is inaugurates. Actually, South East region has long expected security outfit like other regions. For instance, the Yoruba have Amotekun and so do the Hausa. So, merge Ebube Agu with Eastern Security Network will be a good idea.”
