According to a report published by Punch on March 20, 2026, the suspect, identified as “Gozie,” is accused of killing the victim after a prolonged dispute linked to his relationship with the young man’s mother.
The victim, said to be in his twenties, had reportedly expressed strong opposition to the suspect’s frequent visits to their home.
Neighbours described a pattern of recurring confrontations, which intensified after the man allegedly began spending nights at the residence.
Residents disclosed that the deceased had repeatedly warned the suspect to “stay away” from their home, but the warnings were reportedly ignored, leading to escalating tensions within the household.
Suspicion arose when neighbours observed an unusual silence around the compound for several days. Alarmed by the situation, they reportedly forced their way into the premises, where they discovered the young man lifeless in his room, lying in a pool of blood.
The incident was immediately reported to authorities, and the victim’s body was subsequently evacuated to a morgue.
The development sparked outrage within the community, particularly among youths. In a widely circulated video, some residents were seen transporting the victim’s body in a wheelbarrow while demanding justice and accountability.
Further reports indicated that the victim’s mother had relocated to Uli following the death of her husband, and that her relationship with the suspect had been a source of repeated conflict with her son.
