FamousReporters recalls that Chief Don Ubani had demanded for the immediate resignation of Rt. Hon. Chimedum Orji, in an article titled: ”WHY THE SPEAKER OF ABIA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, (IKUKU) MUST RESIGN NOW OR BE DISGRACED OUT OF OFFICE”.

Don Ubani had insisted on the resignation of the Speaker for allegedly “clearly violating the spirit and letters of the oath of the exalted office which he holds in trust for the entire membership of the People‚Äôs Democratic Party in Abia State. “

This was following the visit of the Speaker to the Abuja resident of former Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu.

However, in an exclusive chat with Famous Reporters, in Umuahia, the state’s capital,
Chief Godfrey Onyemobi, an elder statesman in the state in totality condemned the move by the attackers, as he advis7 the latter to abstain from vindictive acts but rather work together towards the betterment of the state.

Chief Onyemobi insisted that the critics of the speaker had not made any relevant impact on the politics of Abia state, noting, “Don Ubani wrote a letter and I have it here. All of them who are calling for his resignation are no body in the politics of Abia state. I repeat they are no body in the politics of Abia state.

“What was their contribution towards the emergence of the present government?”

” Incidentally, I was part of that delegation at Abuja and I see nothing wrong with what the Hon. Mr. did. It shows maturity. People play politics of hatred and rancor. That shouldn’t be the case, because we’re all working for the good of Abia state, whether you are in PDP, APC, APGA or any party, the foremost thing is to work for the goodness of Abia.

“So, I saw nothing wrong with Mr. Speaker visiting senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former Governor of Abia state. We have passed that level of life where we practice politics of hatred, those are for small children. As adults, we should call a spade, a spade.

He described Don Ubani’s call for Speaker’s resignation as downright madness, noting;
“After all, as the Speaker visited OUK is in appreciation of what he did in their lives and just like he rightly said, they cannot write their without devoting a whole paragraph to OUK. Moreover, he was a former Governor of Abia state. So, what’s wrong with going to say ‘welcome, sir? We’re sorry about what happened. So, Don Unani calling for his resignation is sheer madness”, he maintained.

On the purported negligence of the speaker towards the health challenge of the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, he said:
“Engr. Chinedum Orji prays for quick recovery of the Governor in his closet. And when he is praying, will he call Don Ubani and co to come to open service? You pray in your house.

“I pray for him right in my house and no body knows that I pray for him. It was not possible to visit him, if it were possible, we would have visited him and met with him one on one when we went to Abuja.

“Tell those people who are calling for his resignation that I said they should grow up and avoid politics of hatred and vindictiveness”, he thundered.

Speaking further, he said: “Mr. Speaker should not be distracted by their words but he should continue with the good work he’s doing”, he advised, while also imploring Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu not to relent in his existing efforts towards the advancement of the state and Igbo nation in general, saying;
“OUK should continue to lead the crusade of the betterment of Abia state, (Nay Ndi Igbo)”.
