Famous Nollywood Actor, director, and producer, Emma Ehumadu, (aka. Labista) has faulted the federal government’s creation of Special Weapons And Tactics, (SWAT) unit as a replacement for proscribed Special Anti-robbery Squad, (SARS) an arm of the Nigeria Police. The prominent son of Anambra state who was sighted in the midst of thousands of youths of Abia state, at Government House, Umuahia, the state’s capital, during a state wide protest, while speaking with Famous Reporters, in an exclusive interview urged the Buhari led government to deploy the services of experts from the Western world to train the officers who would function in the new capacity.
The renowned philanthropist insisted that borrowing expertise to help eradicate the excesses of this particular security operative, would not be out of place, as Nigeria has been in habit of borrowing even when it is not necessary.
“It’s not about protest, it’s about what everyone knows now; the country is going through turmoil right now in the hands of a unit of the police called SARS.
Nigerians have endured so much that they cannot endure it anymore. Citizens have been dying unnecessarily, people that did not do anything just because they see them with iPhones and Laptops. They are being killed unjustly”,he thundered.
Labista lamented that SWAT was a disguised form of the already existing SARS, as the purported police arm is a perceived deliberate plot by the federal government of Nigeria, in what could be best described as a desperate quest to fool Nigerians, hence the swift change from the original name, SARS to SWAT.
Labista, who advised that members of the said SWAT and indeed the entire Police body be made to undergo an orientation process by some foreign experts in order to totally emancipate their corrupt minds, insisted that Nigerians were protesting for a comprehensive reformation of the Nigeria Police other than a mere change of name.
Hear him: “SWAT means SARS in disguise. Now, let me tell you something, they disbanded SARS and they created SWAT, it’s just the name that they created. The orientation of the police has not been changed which is what we’re fighting for. We want a reform of the Nigerian Police.”
The emotion laden patriotic citizen regretted that the Nigerian government had over the years, been known for their unhesitant quest to borrow funds and other resources from the Western world but, however, wondered why government had not considered it expedient to borrow expertise for the betterment of the existence of the citizenry.
“The SWAT, when did they go for the training? Is it not the same Police officers we have everywhere that will be put in there? Have we not been borrowing in this country? We have been borrowing from the Western world.
Corroborating, Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, a former speaker of the house of the Abia state House of Assembly maintained that giving SARS a new name would not meet the demands of citizens rather what he described as “a comprehensive reformation”.
