A clarion call has been made to the Southeast and South-South Governors, to resist, against all odds every Bill that seeks to compel Nigerians to embrace vaccination and other prophylaxis against Corona Virus Disease, COVID-19.

The Secretary, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN Abia State chapter, Rev. Blessed Amalambu who made this hearty call in Umuahia, in an interview with some Newsmen in Umuahia, implored various parliamentarians and major stakeholders in the country to observe carefully the proposed Control of Infectious Disease Bill, sponsored by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The PFN Secretary expressed uttered dismay to the rapid passing of the said bill which reportedly has passed the second reading, while also urging the Governors to resist, against all odds the incessant smuggling in of Almajaris to the zone

He said: “the speedy rate at which the bill scaled through the first and second reading is disturbing, such a thing has never happened before in the legislative processes. In any proposed bill, I think due process must be observed.

The bill must be well detailed and members of the House must have a copy of it, digest it, weigh its pros and cons and in most cases it calls for public opinion from stakeholders to look into the bill for its acceptability, adaptability and applicability. After due consideration, if the bill is a viable one, it will now requires Mr. President’s assent to it”.

Rev. Amalambu maintained Nigeria rather required bills geared towards the enhancement of peace, growth of the economy especially at the critical time, as he enjoined serious minded Nigerians to look into nuts and bolts of the proposed bill, adding “no matter the after thought by the speaker, because Nigerians have reacted”.

“There is a wide speculation that a foreign interest, who developed a COVID-19 vaccine and need it be tested in Africa. But while others are protesting, why will it start with Nigeria. Why the haste in passing the bill, when the World Health Organization approved or certified vaccines are not yet out. Stakeholders in Nigeria should speak out. Our lives should not be mortgaged to a token given to a few individual. We are talking about the future of our dear nation”.

On the smuggling of Almajaris to the Southeast with the reference to the case in Abia State, Amalambu wondered how they were able to beat the security personnel assigned to guide the borders, since President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors had insisted on border closure, which also included interstate movement.

According to him, “It is obvious and self explanatory that the Federal Government under President Buhari has passed a directive that there should not be any interstate movement. By this directive, every state borders remained closed to curtail the spread of COVID-19. He also demand that Nigerians should strictly adhere to the directive. Security personnel were further directed to ensure strict compliance. State governors also directed that their borders be closed with the constituted COVID-19 taskforce empowered to ensure compliance.

“The Almajaris that were reported, televised and confirmed by the government, left from different states. How did they beat the lockdown directives? Which vehicle conveyed them, because they crossed states from the North before landing in the east and Abia State where they were caught. Where were the enforcers of the President and Governors orders? Were they not there when they passed their land borders”?

Amalambu insisted that they (the defined Almajaris) must have a hidden agenda. “We don’t need a prophet to tell us that they have evil agenda because Almajaris we used to know are made up of little children but these ones are grown ups. Why should such grown ups, able-bodied young men with vibrance and vigor be considered as Almajaris.

“Our Southeast and South-South governors should not take this matter for granted because they (the Almajaris) must have sponsors somewhere. They are working under instructions, somebody is controlling their movement. Either they are on suicide mission or injected with COVID-19 to spread it to the Southeast where the case is lesser. Let the wisdom of God guide our leaders to vehemently resist that move and insist that they leave our borders. If you treat it with flimsy explanation and allow them to stay, the time they will gather themselves together, the mayhem that will follow will be unbearable.

“The Boko Harams have more sophisticated weapon, who gave it to them? I have some convictions that the Boko Haram sponsors also sent these Almajaris to come and create a sad news in Abia State and the entire Southeast, so a stitch in time saves nine. The Abia State government, the Southeast governors should do a written protest to the presidency on this Almajaris. Through their legislators, they should make a law that any Almajari caught henceforth must face the law. Our security personnel should also not allow these loopholes”.

Amalambu advised that the Abia State governor and his security personnel put heads together to ensure strict compliance with the land borders closures and interstate movement, adding that youths with good records from the various local government areas should be properly educated and absolved to the security personnel to guard the various land borders.

He lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his dogged fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the state and the palliatives he has handed down to the residents and called for an overhaul of the land borders security personnel in order to fit in men of high integrity, who cannot be twisted with money, as such will spell doom to the state in the future.
