Rep. Onuigbo Kicks Off Massive Empowerment For 200 Youths, Women (Photos)

Not fewer than 200 youths of Abia State, have again, benefited from the empowerment programmes of the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Rep. Sam Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo.

This is in line with the Legislator’s quest be eradicate poverty and unemployment from among his Constituents, Sam Onuigbo the Honourable member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State.

The intensive empowerment scheme for the people of the constituency which the Legislator has embarked upon, is in collaboration with National Institute for Cultural Orientation, NICO.

Addressing the 200 beneficiaries comprising both young men and women, at Kolping Society, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, the state’s capital, the federal lawmaker reminded that the exercise was in fulfilment of his campaign promises.

Famousreporters.com Correspondent gathered that the five-day Strategic Training/Empowerment is strictly for unemployed youths and unskilled women from Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency and across the state.

Speaking his Chief Liaison Officer, Evangelist Abraham Osondu, Onuigbo reiterated that the programme was continuation of his commitment in leveraging his position at the Federal House in sourcing out the Federal Government skills acquisition and empowerment programmes in the interest his Constituents.IMG 20220819 WA0010

Addressing newsmen, Rep. Onuigbo’s Liaison Officer said: “it’s part of his continuous empowerment to his constituents, a promise he made during his first term, and has continued with that promise in his second term.

“It is about empowering people through self-employment because that’s the way forward for Nigeria, it’s no longer a question of I am a graduate you are writing an application for jobs.

“We are trying to get people to look for ways they can establish themselves and be able to have regular income rather than asking or begging people to give them money”.

Evangelist Osondu recounted on the numerous empowerment programmes organised by the Lawmaker for his people, among which were; fishery, poultry farming and other kinds of skills acquisitions in the area of tailoring, fashion designing, etc.

Speaking further, he said, “We have always provided trainees with equipment, skills and then stipends to support that because obviously startup capital is very essential if you are going to empower people. You don’t just train them and send them away empty handed.

“So we expect this will be accompanied by a package, the National Institutes for Cultural Orientation, NICO essentially has got a package, obviously during closing ceremony they will be saying what that package is, it will be a combination of equipment and of course the skills they’ve acquired and cash to get them start up”.

One of the participants, Mr Atuowu Chidiebube Joshua said “majorly this first day training is centered on fish farming, in the course of the training we were told the factors affecting fish production in Nigeria. As a farmer and what you have to do to make sure that you keep your farm going and also some of the bad practices that farmers do that affect the fish farm and the best practices that you have to do.”

The beneficiaries thanked Onuigbo for his benevolence, hence enhancing the living standard of the people by granting them access to economic opportunities.

Similarly, another beneficiary of the second batch of the exercise, Comrd. Promise Ezekiel, a native of Umugo Oloko, who spoke to Famous Reporters on Friday, August 19, noted with great delight that Odozi-Obodo had proven himself a people-oriented leader.

Ezekiel, amidst elation, thanked God for using Rep. Onuigbo to wipe away tears from the people , thus restoring hope in them, as he prayed for God’s blessing upon the Lawmaker, while also reassuring him of their relentless support in his political bids.
