There was chaos in the city of Umuahia, the capital of f Abia State, as an officer of the Nigeria Police was shot dead by a gang of Armed robbers, in a robbery attack.
The horrible incident which took place in the early hours of the today, Friday, along Akanu Ibiam Road, Umuahia, inflicted injuries on
Reportedly, the robbers trailed their victim, a chinese man who had gone to the bank to withdraw some money from the Enugu- Porthacourt Expressway, to bank road in Umuahia, intercepted their victim in an Ash colour highlander jeep.
According to the Source, the robbers were aided by the traffic jam along the Mission Hill area, thus intercepting the vehicle conveying the Chinese on his return from the bank, as they robbed him of the total sum of #3 million.
He said: “The gunmen shot in the air to scare passers-by, before attacking the Highlander vehicle conveying the white man, shooting his police escort who died outrightly and the driver in the leg.”
In addition, the source disclosed that the robbers who sped off upon getting hold on the cash, left the Chinese unhurt.
Speaking further, he said: “I doubt whether the driver would make it, because he lost a lot of blood before he was taken to the Federal Medical Centre for treatment.”
