The state secretary, Pentecostal Feullowship of Nigereia, Abia State chapter has frowned at the recent release of purportedly repentant Boko Haram Suspects in the North by the Military.
Rev. Blessed U. Amalambu while speaking with Famous Reporters in Umuahia, argued that the release of the suspected Boko Haram insurgents and rehabilitation into the society had thrown the lives of the people into more jeopardy, as there have been more recorded incidents of attacks following the said act of President Mohammadu Buhari’s led government.
It would be recalled that Borno State Commissioner for Information had revealed that
not fewer than 1,400 repentant Boko Haram suspects were set free again and rehabilitated into society, on February 10, by the military to continue with their normal life.
The PFN Secretary, however, decried the hike in the rate of terrorists’ attack in the Northern part of the country following the release of the said repentant Boko Haram suspects in Borno.
He said: “If actually these captured Boko Haram insurgents actually repented and have resolutely and sincerely pledged that they would not go back to the act again, nothing prevents them from being released back into the society. For instance, they recently released 1,400 captured Boko Haram insurgents whom they claimed had repented, then shortly after their release, the invasion of communities increased and killings escalated and people are now crying that the whole thing became more serious after their release”.
Rev. Amalambu urged the Federal government of Nigeria to play with caution, adding “because the Bible I read according to Jeremiah 17:29 says ‘the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked; who can discern it except God”?
“If the security operatives got offended they’re right because after capturing the same people who have been slaughtering them, the federal government release and allowed them to live their normal lives”, he continued.
He argued that the rehabilitated Boko Haram suspects if truly repentant could be forgiven, reiterating that “if they actually repented and turned from their wicked ways, nothing forbids their being forgiven because the Bible says when you repent and turn away from your sins you will be forgiven of your sins but when you are unrepentant and then somebody wants to protect you and releases you, that person who releases you has given you license to kill more lives”, he explained.
Meanwhile, Famous Reporters recalls that the Nigerian senate had on February 20, introduced a bill for the establishment of an agency that will be in charge of rehabilitation, reintegration, and deradicalization of repentant Boko Haram Members in the country.
This strange development did not go down well with Nigerians who in no doubts saw it as a disguised ploy to jeopardize the lives of the citizenry as it were.
