NAOSNP Kicks Off 2025 Week with Anti-Drug, Anti-Cultism Walk in Lagos

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) on Wednesday flagged off activities marking its 2025 NAOSNP Week with a sensitization walk aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism, and domestic violence.

The awareness walk, which took off from the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, was declared open by the Commissioner of Police, Moshood Olorundare Jimoh, who urged criminally-minded residents of Lagos to turn away from crime before it was too late.

Jimoh praised the association for its long-standing partnership with the police, describing NAOSNP as “a strong ally in promoting safety, security, and responsible journalism.”

The walk, held in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), took participants through Oba Akinjobi Road, Computer Village, and ended at the Ikeja Underbridge Bus Stop. The event had a carnival-like atmosphere, with participants dressed in green outfits, dancing through the streets while sharing messages of hope, discipline, and peace.

At the terminal point, several speakers addressed the crowd, warning against the dangers of drug use, cultism, and domestic violence—vices described as the roots of most societal problems.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, who also doubles as the Lagos State Coordinator for POCACOV, cautioned youths to avoid drugs and cult activities, describing them as “silent killers.”

“Once you take that path, it’s only a matter of time before they destroy you or the law catches up with you,” she said. “Say no to drugs, cultism, and domestic violence if you want to live a meaningful and productive life.”

In the same vein, Dr. Moses Oladimeji, Chairman of POCACOV Lagos, appealed to young people to embrace positive living, emphasizing that no one succeeds through crime.

“The long arm of the law will always catch up with every lawbreaker,” he warned.

Also speaking, SRC Oluwadamilola Jayeola, Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, shared her personal experience, noting that the choices made in youth can determine future success.

“If I had joined a cult or allowed myself to derail while in school, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she said. “Good choices build great futures.”

The NAOSNP President, Comrade Samson Oki, and Organising Committee Chairman, Mr. Samuel Awoyinfa, also used the occasion to encourage the youth and families to uphold values that promote peace, unity, and social responsibility.
