Rotational load shedding will be reduced from stage 2 to stage 1 at noon on Saturday, Eskom has announced.
Stage 1 load shedding will continue until 11 p.m.
The power utility said that the synchronisation of Koeberg’s Unit 1 to the grid has helped increase generation capacity.
The utility had announced the sudden implementation of Stage 4 load shedding on Tuesday evening after the unit tripped. According to Eskom it was due to a fault with the sea water pump that cools the reactors.
Koeberg supplies around 1 860 MW to the national grid. Around 930 MW of power was lost with the disconnection of the unit.
Eskom added on Saturday that the country is also experiencing low weekend power demand, which has lessened stress on the system.
The utility did not give a prognosis for Sunday.
