Lagos Police Women Mark 70th Anniversary with 5km Walk Against Gender-Based Violence

“Lagos Police Women marked the 70th anniversary of Nigeria Police Women with a 5km Walkathon Against Gender-Based Violence, led by CP Olohundare Jimoh and supported by the Lagos DSVA. The event highlighted policewomen’s vital contributions and renewed commitment to ending GBV in Lagos State.”

The Lagos State Police Command, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, held a symbolic 5km Walkathon Against Gender-Based Violence as part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Police Women. The event, organised in partnership with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), celebrated “seven decades of courage, resilience, and exceptional service” by women in the Nigeria Police Force.

Policewomen across the Command turned out in impressive numbers, demonstrating unity and a strengthened resolve to combat all forms of gender-based violence in Lagos State.

The walk was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who walked alongside the women in a strong public show of support for their advocacy efforts. He was accompanied by ACP Mary Ayim, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) and the most senior female officer in the Command, as well as female Area Commanders, female Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and numerous female personnel.

The procession kicked off from the State Headquarters and moved through Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, engaging residents and raising awareness on the urgent need to eliminate gender-based violence.

In his remarks, CP Olohundare Jimoh commended the outstanding contributions of policewomen to policing in Lagos State, noting their crucial roles in crime prevention, criminal apprehension, community engagement, and administrative leadership. He emphasised that their dedication continues to enhance the operational efficiency of the Lagos State Police Command and deepen public trust.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting women in policing while strengthening partnerships with relevant agencies to ensure the protection, safety, and well-being of all residents—particularly survivors of gender-based violence.
