JUST IN: Why Peter Obi must inform Akpebholo before visiting Edo, Wike snaps back
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained why former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, must get security clearance from Governor Monday Okpebholo before visiting Edo State.
Declaring his support for the statement by Edo State Governor, Wike maintained that
Okpebholo was accurate when he demanded a notification before Obi could visit Edo.
Wike made the submission today, Tuesday, July 22, in Benin City, during the launch of modern mass transit buses by the Edo State government, amidst the controversies generated by Okpebholo, who had stated that Obi must not visit Edo State without a security clearance from him.
According to the former Rivers State Governor, the Governor will be held responsible if anything happens to the former Labour Party presidential candidate while on visit to the state.
The Minister also recalled that when he was the Governor of Rivers State, he provided Peter Obi with vehicles and logistics during his presidential campaign in the state.
Wike also stated that the Governor’s statement is not a threat against Obi.
He said: “When I was governor of Rivers State, when Peter Obi was coming to my state, he notified me, and I provided vehicles and logistics for him, because at that level, as a presidential candidate, anything that happens to him will be my fault.
“Governor Okpebholo, the statement you made is correct. Obi must inform you before coming to Edo State.” Wike said.
It is no longer news that the Governor of Edo State has B in the spotlight in recent times following his comments on the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
Famousreporters.com reports that Okpebholo, during a public event on Friday, July 18, warned that Obi must not visit Edo without prior security clearance, alleging that violence followed the LP leader’s last visit to the state.
“That man who says he has no ‘shishi’ came and dropped N15 million. Where did he get it from? After he left, three people were killed. For this reason, Obi must not come to Edo without security clearance,” Okpebholo said.
However, this security was perceived as a threat, as many political leaders, including netizens have come out to condemn vehemently, the statement of the Governor.
