Jubilations in Ikwuano, As Mayor Nwaka Flags Rehabilitation Of Link Roads
The ongoing road infrastructure upgrade has elicited a joyful feeling among the people of Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a resounding echo of the glory days of local government administration in Nigeria, Ikwuano Local Government Area (LGA) is experiencing a revival as the flag-off ceremony for the grading and cleanup of previously neglected link roads takes place.
The ceremony, which was held at Aro Ajatakiri on Saturday, January 6, 2024, marked the inauguration of the first phase of a comprehensive road infrastructure upgrade initiative.
Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government, Hon. Osinachi Nwaka, expressed enthusiasm about the transformative impact of this initiative, noting that “this is the first phase of the road grading, and more will still happen as we progress.
According to the Mayor’s Director of Media, Dr. Okezie Chukwuemeka, the said initiative stems from the pressing community demands for essential projects, voiced during a town hall meeting convened by Mayor Osinachi with the President-Generals on December 13th, 2023, at the council hall.
Roads enlisted to receive attention in the first phase are Aro-Ajatakiri Road, Admiral Rapha Osundu Road, Isiala to Umuigu Road, Umuezeukwu to Umuigu Road, Ndi Eke Obugwu Azuchio Road, Epiri Alalala to Ariam Usaka Road, Ahia Orie to Inyila Road, Inyila to Isiala Ibere Road, and Itunta Road.
Anticipating the upcoming second phase of the project, the Mayor stated that strategic roads “which were not covered initially will be included, marking a pivotal step towards linking up communities within the region.”
Speaking further during the event, Mayor Osinachi emphasized that the road infrastructure upgrade project is a significant stride towards enhancing the overall well-being of residents and fostering sustainable development in Ikwuano LGA.
Responding, the President general (PG) of Aro-ajatakiri, Engineer Obioma Emereuwa expressed his profound gratitude to Ossy Nwaka for swiftly responding to their demand, as he wailed that the community had suffered untold hardship and loss of values instigated by bad roads, as well as negligence of the past government.
Furthermore, he thanked Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR for appointing Nwaka as the Mayor of the Council, while describing him as “a man of proven character to oversee the local government. Hon Osinachi Nwaka is a perfect choice”, he boasted.
Among other distinguished personalities from the village who graced the flag-off ceremony, were; Former Enyimba player and International Mr. Chike Arisa, Former Permanent Secretary- Ministry of Information in Abia State – Barrister Afam Harbour. Others include Deputy Mayor – Hon. Chief Charles Ugbuajah, Councillor for Oboro Ward II – Ugochukwu Nwankwo, Political Stakeholder – Sir Nathan Harbour, Political Stakeholder – Okosis Harbour, and Women Leaders.
