I’ll visit Benin again, make donations, if needed, Peter Obi waves off Okpebholo’s threat
The former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed as insignificant, threats from Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, saying he will not be intimidated and will continue to visit the state if duty calls.
Addressing Journalists in Awka, Obi responded to a warning issued by Governor Okpebholo, who reportedly stated that Obi’s safety could not be guaranteed if he returned to Edo. In a calm but firm reply, Obi made it clear that threats meant little or less to him.
Continuing, he insisted that he remained committed to serving Nigerians wherever he is needed.
“Threats don’t make any meaning to me. I receive threats every day actually. If I have the opportunity to go to Benin and make donations again, trust me, I will,” Obi said.
The former governor of Anambra State explained that his visits are strictly for public good, particularly to support education and healthcare — sectors he believes should be depoliticised. Obi emphasized that rather than issuing threats, leaders should support efforts aimed at uplifting the people.
He was speaking at Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he and fellow alumni donated ₦50 million towards new staff quarters and administrative facilities. Obi encouraged well-meaning Nigerians to invest honestly in their communities and not just make donations for show.
“This is what people should be doing — not stealing money to donate, but using honest means to uplift society,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to traveling across the country, making donations to schools and hospitals, and working to reduce poverty. “Forget about the threat, it’s a waste of time,” he added.
These words of Obi have stirred reactions across the country, with many lauding his calm and service-driven approach to leadership.
