“Horror in Minna: ‘Blind’ 59-Year-Old Man Arrested for Alleged Abuse of 10-Year-Old Wife’s Niece

“A 59-year-old man in Minna, Niger State, identified as Julius Nyikwa, has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly assaulting a 10-year-old girl living in the same compound. The suspect, said to be blind and related to the victim by family ties, was apprehended after the girl’s grandmother raised an alarm. Police have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department and confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court.”

“A quiet family compound in Minna has been thrown into shock and outrage after a disturbing allegation emerged against a 59-year-old man described as blind. The case, involving a vulnerable 10-year-old girl and a trusted family member, has sparked deep concern about safety within homes and communities—raising urgent questions about trust, protection, and justice.”

A 59-year-old man, identified as Julius Nyikwa, has been taken into custody by the Niger State Police Command over allegations of repeatedly abusing a 10-year-old girl sexually, in Minna.

The suspect, who is reportedly blind, was arrested following an incident that occurred on February 16, 2026, in the Keteren-Gwari area of Minna. According to sources, the young victim resides in the same compound as Nyikwa, who allegedly lured her into his room on multiple occasions.

Further complicating the case is the close family relationship between both parties. It was gathered that the suspect’s wife is a sister to the victim’s mother, meaning they all lived together in the same family compound.

A source familiar with the matter disclosed that “the suspect had allegedly been luring his wife’s younger niece into his room repeatedly and assaulting her.”

The situation reportedly came to light during what has been described as the “final incident,” when the girl was seen entering the suspect’s room by her grandmother. Alarmed by the development, the elderly woman raised an outcry that attracted neighbours, leading to the suspect’s immediate apprehension.

The police were subsequently contacted, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the development, the Project Director of Global Promoters for Community Initiatives, Mr Olasukanmi Kalejaiye, strongly condemned the alleged act, stating that “we will ensure that justice is served and the suspect is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, assured the public of diligent prosecution.

“On February 16, 2026, at about 2:00 pm, a case of rape was reported at ‘B’ Division, Minna. It involved a 59-year-old suspected blind man, Julius Nyikwa of Keteren-Gwari, Minna, and a 10-year-old girl living in the same compound,” he said.

Abiodun added, “Investigations revealed that the suspect’s wife is a sister to the victim’s mother, and they all reside in the same compound as an extended family.”
“It was further established that the suspect allegedly lured the victim into his room on multiple occasions.”

“During the last incident, the grandmother noticed the child entering the suspect’s room and raised an alarm, which led to his arrest by neighbours.”

“The case has since been transferred to the SCID, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigations,” he assured.
