There is a glimmer of hope for embattled Nigerian traders in Ghana as the Federal Government of Nigeria has vowed to get justice for them, ThisDay reports.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who explained that the Federal government had in mind the well-being of the people,
gave the assurance during a meeting with representatives of the Nigerian community in Ghana, on Tuesday’s evening.

According to a statement issued yesterday, by the vice-president’s spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, the meeting had its focus mainly on the challenges facing Nigerians living in Ghana, particularly the recent decision of Ghanaian authority to shut down Nigerian businesses in the country consequent on their inability to pay the unwarranted $1 million slammed on them.

Akande revealed that Osinbajo while responding to the issues raised by leaders of the Nigerian community at the meeting, particularly complaints of maltreatment by Ghanaian authorities assured them of the federal government’s commitment to deal with the issues thoroughly.

“I will certainly convey the depth of your grievances to the president. I am sure that he will be deeply disturbed to hear that despite the assurances that he had received, (from the Ghanaian government) there are still problems and complications,” he said.

He said Osinbajo told the meeting that the delay in resolving the issues might have been caused by bureaucratic bottlenecks.

He, however, promised that machinery would henceforth be put in place to resolve the matter.

“I look forward to getting the details and making sure that we are able to begin to resolve some of these issues as quickly as possible. But I think you must also recognise that generally speaking, governments tend to be very slow.

“Processes are slow, bureaucracies are slow, but we will make sure that we do the very best we can to get you your rights so that at least, you are dealt with justly,” he added.
