Governor Adeleke Resigns from PDP
“Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing unresolved national leadership crises. His exit raises fresh concerns about the PDP’s preparedness for the 2026 Osun governorship election.”
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his decision to what he described as a deepening leadership crisis at the party’s national level.
In a statement released on his Instagram page late Monday, Adeleke confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
He wrote: “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.”
Adeleke expressed gratitude to the party and its supporters, saying: “I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor of Osun State.”
Before his formal resignation, reports from the PDP’s Osun State chapter indicated that the governor was unlikely to seek the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the internal disputes were resolved.
Party leaders had earlier expressed hope that a reconciliation—one recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—could persuade him to remain within the PDP and seek re-election under its platform.
