Just like the proverbial pregnancy that cannot be covered from public’s recognition, the wicked ploys of Engr. David Umahi, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi to make life miserable for some indigenes of the state, who have posed an uphill task to him, has been exposed.
Below are highlights of May 19,2021 Exco meeting.
- Governor David Umahi appointed himself Chief of Staff by designating his COS, Lady Queen Agwu, as Principal Secretary (PS).
- Named his erstwhile PS, Clement Nweke, as Ag Commissioner for Housing & Urban Development
- Placed Emma Obasi, deputy PS and Okechukwu Nwakpu, deputy COS on half salary for “non performance.”
- Engr. David Umahi submitted a petition authored by his officials against many leaders of the PDP in the state to the visiting AIG zone 6, who was on courtesy call with a stern order that “all those accused must be severely dealt with and their phones confiscated for screening. That he would not tolerate any compromise that will see those listed walk free Allegations range from herdsmen issues, attack on security men and burning of police stations, media criticism and others”.
- Those specifically accused include Sen Sam Egwu, Ali Odefa, Linus Okorie, Silas Onu, Fred Udogu, Amos Ogbonnaya, Okpo Okechukwu, Barr Okoeze, etc. Sen Anyim was added in passing.
- Governor David Umahi announced that he will commence probe of the tenure of Sen Sam Egwu as governor of Ebonyi state.
- Emphasized that Ebubeagu had come to stay in Ebonyi and that no amount of pressure will make him dissolve it.
- Threatened that he will trim the size of his EXCO to weed out all those who continue to “stay on the fence” in his attack on the opposition; directing that he wants to “see action” from all members of the Council in this regard.
- Observed that it was only the Chairmen of Afikpo South, Ishielu and Onicha LGAs that were “performing” and he was “sure of their loyalty”. That the rest, majority of EXCO members, were suspects in his fight against the opposition PDP that he didn’t trust.
- He further that he will “share money in 2022” and that all his followers should continue to “endure”. Evidently, things have really fallen apart in our dear Ebonyi State! Something has to be done urgently to salvage the seemingly pathetic situation in the state. But, the one billion dollars question is, what can be done? Please, drop your comments!
