A former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, has passed away.

Famous Reporters, citing Cliq NG, reports that the former lawmaker died on Friday morning.
His death was officially confirmed by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a significant blow to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and Nigeria as a whole.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Senator Nwaoboshi as “a proud son of Delta State and a courageous defender of the Anioma cause,” noting that his contributions to national development would remain indelible.

The governor recalled the late senator’s impactful service at the National Assembly, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, emphasizing that his strong voice and sustained advocacy for the development of the Niger Delta and Delta State distinguished him as a committed and passionate leader.

According to Oborevwori, Senator Nwaoboshi’s political rise was anchored on a rich political pedigree, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals. These qualities, he said, also reflected in his tenure as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, where he served meritoriously.

PETER NWAOBOSHI AT A GLANCE

Born on June 29, 1958, Senator Nwaoboshi hailed from Idumuje-Unor, a community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, in Nigeria’s South-South region.

He represented the Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate from June 2015 to June 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nwaoboshi was succeeded in the Senate by Ned Nwoko, who currently represents the district.
Prior to his election to the National Assembly, he served as Chairman of the PDP in Delta State from 2008 to 2014, resigning from the position to pursue his senatorial ambition.

In 2021, the former senator defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his suspension from the PDP over alleged anti-party activities, which arose from a political dispute with the then Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.
