The young man, described by peers as exceptionally brilliant, had recently completed his academic programme with top honours and was nearing the end of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He had also secured admission for a master’s degree in the United States, facilitated by a relative, and was reportedly travelling to Abuja to finalise documentation when tragedy struck.
According to an eyewitness, “he died on the spot” following a fatal accident during the journey. The loss sent shockwaves through his academic circle and community. “He was our coursemate and one of the brightest. It was devastating news for his family,” the source added.
The deceased was the only child of his parents — a factor that compounded the emotional toll of his death. In a further tragic turn, his father reportedly collapsed shortly after receiving the news. “When his father heard, he slumped and died instantly,” the eyewitness recounted.
As preparations for burial commenced, another devastating blow followed. The young man’s mother, overwhelmed by grief, and resorted to taking a harmful substance, leading to her death weeks later.
