FCE Ofeme Ohuhu Among Eight Nigerian Institutions Selected for UNESCO–IICBA Training in Ethiopia

“The Federal College of Education Ofeme Ohuhu has been named among eight Nigerian institutions selected for the UNESCO–IICBA training in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a major milestone highlighting the institution’s growing national relevance and commitment to teacher development.”

The Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Ofeme Ohuhu, Dr. Titus Sunday Ezeme, has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and other relevant agencies for selecting the institution as one of the eight institutions that represented Nigeria at the UNESCO–IICBA (International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa) training held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Dr. Ezeme made this known in his office when the College’s representative at the programme, Dr. Eucharia Akumefula, visited him shortly after returning from the engagement in Ethiopia.

According to the Provost, the recognition given to FCE Ofeme reflects the institution’s fast-rising profile and the quality of leadership provided by its Governing Board, chaired by Hajia Hussain Adamu.

“The selection of the Federal College of Education Ofeme is a testimony to how far the institution has come and the quality of its Board members. While we thank God for leading us thus far, we cannot fail to commend our hardworking Board, its chairman, the management team, and staff for this milestone. It is indeed a rare opportunity, and we pray for more of it. We will continue our collaborative efforts aimed at uplifting the College,” he said.

Dr. Akumefula, who represented the institution at the training, thanked the Provost and management for finding her worthy of the assignment. She described the selection as a remarkable feat for a relatively new institution.

She explained that the capacity-building programme focused on empowering female teachers across Africa.

“The training centred on female teachers because they make up a large percentage of the teaching workforce and are often the most affected during crises. The goal was to empower female teachers and school leaders through mobile-based learning, equipping them with digital teaching skills,” she said.

Dr. Akumefula, who also serves as the Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, said she highlighted the challenges faced by educational institutions—particularly those located in rural areas—during her presentations in Addis Ababa.

“I emphasized the efforts of FCE Ofeme in teacher training, educational ethics, and leadership development. I also drew attention to the peculiar challenges rural-based institutions face,” she added.
