Eziulo, Iyonu Crisis: Ebonyi CAN sues for peace

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ebonyi state chapter has, in collaboration   with the ministry of peace and conflict resolution urged the people of Iyonu and Eziulo communities to sheath their swords over the protracted land dispute.

The chairman of the delegation  Rev. Fr. Dr. Abraham Nwali who also doubles as SSA to Ebonyi state Governor on Religious and Welfare Matters whose jurisdiction includes peace and conflict resolution, led the delegations to the area, as he assured the warring parties that the government was bent on providing a lasting solution to the long generational crises between the sisters communities .

Fr. Nwali stated that before they made peace between Iyonu and Eziulo, “Eboyi state government received a memoranda from the people of Iyonu requesting the governmet to look into their boundary and make all the neccessary adjustments and delineations”, he said.

According to him, “the  Governor graciously granted and asked CAN to handle alongside other communities in dispute, hence, today CAN has visited Ishielu  local government and had a lovely audience with the two communities in dispute,  Eziulo and Iyonu.”

Continuing, he said: “After  unterupted plans among the delegates of the two communities, they agreed  to meet again by next week Friday being 26th of June 2020”.

Furthermore, Fr Nwali admitted that the communities were not fighting over any land presently,  adding “but there are silent acrimonies, which if not handled timely, will escalate to another fight because they are used to that.” Fr.Nwali assert.

The caretaker chairman who was represented by the head of personel management, Mr. Chima Francis expressed utter confidence in CAN, noting “I am certain that they would achieve a lasting peace since CAN is involved, considering other daunting and difficult disputes they handled. “I thanked the governor for chosing CAN for this assignment, adding that any community that does not listen or accept CAN’s resolution is denying will of God “
