By Charity Uwakwe
The immediate past deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
This formal resignation of the former deputy Governor comes ten (10) days after endorsing the Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State for a second term in the forthcoming 2027 gubernatorial race.
It will be recalled that the former deputy Governor who served under the administration of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu had on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, shortly after a closed-door meeting with Otti, publicly affirmed that Governor Otti had earned himself a second term in office.
In a letter. dated. August 5, 2025, signed by Oko-Chukwu and addressed to the PDP chairman, Ndi Elu ward Nkporo Ohafia Local Government Area, the former deputy Governor who stated pointedly that his resignation was for personal reasons, also admitted that his decision though a seemingly uphill task was the best course of action “for me at this time”, he said.
The letter was received and signed by one Ama Nwoke Ibe on behalf of PDP Ndi Elu ward Nkporo.
He used the medium to express profound gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities to serve.
Though the ex-deputy governor did not indicate his next move in the letter, it is speculated that he may join the Nenadi Usman faction of the Labour Party.
However, there are widespread speculations in Abia that Oko Chukwu will contest the Abia North Senatorial seat against the incumbent, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
