EFCC, ICPC Lead Call for Collective Fight Against Corruption at 2025 National Security Conference
At the 2025 National Security Conference organized by NAOSNP, Nigeria’s top anti-corruption agencies — EFCC and ICPC — joined security chiefs and stakeholders in Lagos to reaffirm that the fight against corruption is vital to national security, urging collective public participation and unveiling new citizen-reporting tools.
The 2025 National Security Conference and Awards, organized by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), placed strong emphasis on the pivotal role of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies in safeguarding national stability.
The high-profile event, held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on October 21, 2025, brought together top representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alongside security chiefs, government officials, and private-sector stakeholders.
Speaking on behalf of ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu, the Lagos Commissioner, Chukwurah Alexander, described corruption as a “silent enemy” of national security, noting that it turns “thieves into chiefs” and weakens Nigeria’s collective fight against crime.
He urged collaboration across institutions — from law enforcement to media and the public — stressing that, “If you want ICPC and EFCC to succeed, all of us must come to the table.”
During a panel session, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that protecting Nigeria’s wealth requires a “multidimensional strategy.”
He explained that this includes securing the fiscal system, curbing illicit financial flows, and ensuring transparency in tax administration.
According to him, the Nigerian Police Force is now “knowledge-driven, intelligence-led, and digitally equipped” to disrupt financial and economic crimes before they escalate.
The EFCC was represented by DCE Ayo Oyewole, Head of Public Affairs, Lagos, who stood in for the agency’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. Oyewole encouraged Nigerians to be proactive in reporting suspicious financial activities, saying, “Say something when you hear something.”
He introduced the ‘EFCC Eagle Eye App’, available on Android and iOS, which allows citizens to report fraudulent activities anonymously, upload photos of suspicious properties, and even qualify for whistle-blower rewards.
Participants reaffirmed that the fight against corruption is inseparable from national security, stressing that strong collaboration among agencies such as the EFCC, ICPC, and their partners is vital for Nigeria’s economic growth and internal stability.
