Ebonyi: Our ‘marriage’ with old PDP members, Not yet certain- APC Party Chieftain *Says We Can “Demarry”

An All Progressives Congress Chieftain in Ebonyi State, Hon Enyi C. Enyi, on Wednesday, said the party was not yet sure of the ‘marriage’ between its members and members of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected with the Governor David Umahi, in the state.

This is even as Enyi, who was a former Minority Leader in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, pointed out that the APC in the state might not make progress, if its founding fathers were neglected.

The former lawmaker stated this during the SIR EDWARD NKWEGU annual Christmas Party, at the Grand Arena, Abakaliki, the state capital, on Wednesday.

He said, “We are not yet sure of this marriage between us and them, members( of the PDP) in the state.

“They said we are married, but we are not yet sure. If in a marriage, the other partner, is not sure, we can demarry the marriage. It is important to recognise the founding fathers of the party in the state and the progrrss of the party depends on this. There is what is called the intra-uterine of a party. This is improving of the marriage must work.”

Governor Umahi, on November 19, 2020, defected to the APC, turning the state, which had operated under the PDP for over 20 years, to the ruling party.

During his former declaration to the APC, Umahi, had described his movement to the ruling party alongside his supporters, as, “A miraculous marriage”,

Speaking at the occasion, the host, Sir Edward Nkwegu, said Ebonyi’s current link with the centre was in its own best interest, saying the great Zik of Africa, believed in the politics of the centre.

Sir Nkwegu enjoined the people to appreciate the numerous projects of the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (,rted), stressing that the President meant well for them.

“For the first time in the country, the President has employed about 774,000 citizens on Adhoc ground. This is real and the federal government has released money for their payment. By January, they will be paid and we advise those who have not been captured, to do so before New Year day,” he said.
