Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has regained her freedom following her release by the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos, days after she was rearrested in Abuja shortly after securing bail, SaharaReporters has learned.

Ogala was reportedly transported to Lagos by operatives attached to the Zone 2 Police Command after her arrest sparked widespread controversy.

Sources disclosed that the situation escalated when her lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, attempted to document the police operation.

According to the sources, officers allegedly assaulted the lawyer, confiscated his mobile phones, and proceeded to escort the actress on a flight to Lagos.

SaharaReporters gathered that Ogala eventually regained her freedom after the intervention of Jamiu Towolawi, also known as Jharmo, a coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, who stood as surety for her bail.
Following her release, Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, popularly known as Grace Nation Liberation City, reportedly met with the actress and appealed for reconciliation.

A source familiar with the development told SaharaReporters that the cleric urged Ogala to allow peace to prevail and called for an end to the lingering dispute.

“Today, a Take It Back Movement leader, Jamiu Towolawi, also known as Jharmo, arrived at the Zone 2 Command to demand Ogala’s immediate release,” the source said.

“Dramatically, Pastor Chris Okafor, who was at the centre of the arrest and controversy, arrived at Onikan and pleaded with her to allow peace to reign. It was obvious that the arrest was allegedly instigated to intimidate her, and upon realising she would not back down, the pastor reportedly knelt and begged her.”

The source added that the cleric and the actress held a closed-door meeting lasting nearly one hour, with no third parties present.

“After the private peace meeting, the police released her on ‘health grounds’, with Jharmo serving as surety,” the source disclosed.

It was further revealed that the police later returned the two mobile phones seized from Ogala’s lawyer after her release in Lagos.

Officers reportedly requested that a video recording of the arrest be deleted, citing their inability to access the devices. However, the request was rejected by the Take It Back Movement coordinator.

SaharaReporters had earlier reported that what began as a legal dispute over an alleged promise of marriage took a dramatic turn when Ogala was arrested during a live-streamed interview on Saturday.

The arrest occurred in real time when the programme host interrupted the interview to ask, “The police are in your house?”

Ogala replied, “Yes, the police are in my house.”
The development followed a series of allegations made by the actress against Pastor Okafor, whom she had accused of breaching a promise to marry her.

On Friday, Ogala shared — and later deleted — a post allegedly showing the cleric in a private bedroom setting. The image reportedly depicted a topless man wrapped in a towel, which the actress claimed was Pastor Okafor.

She further alleged that the cleric had just engaged in sexual activity and warned that she would release a full video.

Last week, Ogala, through her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, issued a demand letter dated December 16, 2025, seeking ₦1 billion in aggravated damages from the pastor over what her legal team described as a broken marital commitment.

The letter, addressed to the cleric at his Ojodu Berger residence, warned of impending legal action if the demands were not met within 21 days.

According to the lawyers, Pastor Okafor allegedly made a “clear, consistent and unequivocal” promise to marry Ogala, forming the basis of a personal relationship that reportedly began in 2017.

The legal team further claimed that the relationship started at a time when the actress was emotionally vulnerable and had approached the cleric for pastoral counselling.

Ogala’s lawyers argued that the alleged promise went beyond verbal assurances, citing introductions to family members, attendance at family functions, and other actions said to reinforce her expectation of marriage.

They also claimed that photographs, videos, WhatsApp messages and banking records exist to substantiate the actress’ claims.

The letter further alleged that Ogala acted to her detriment by exiting a troubled marriage and abandoning prospects of reconciliation based on the promised union.

Additionally, the actress claimed she entrusted Pastor Okafor with ₦45 million in a single transaction and granted him access to her finances in reliance on the relationship.

While acknowledging that marriage cannot be legally compelled, her lawyers argued that Nigerian law provides remedies for breach of promise and aggravated emotional harm.
