The Nigeria Police Force, Abia state command has reiterated that the existing order and directives given by the government of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu to Tricycle operators (Keke drivers) and bus drivers was geared towards preventing the spread of coronavirus disease in the state.
In a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Godfrey Ogbonna, the command regretted the level of resistance to government’s directives among members of the general public especially transporters, in spite of the various Task Force set up in the state.
The release read in part:
“The Nigeria Police as an organization is saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property, as well as enforcement of laws and order among others.
Consequently the extant order and directives given by the state government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Pandemic is aimed at protecting lives of the masses.
It is disheartening to state that some members of the public especially transporters are not complying with the directives despite the fact that Task Force set up at the six police area commands, state headquarters, Umuahia and Divisional Police Headquarters for its implementation have within the few days impounded some tricycles in deviant of the order and directives
The Abia state police command further reiterates that anyone caught defying the order and directives will have his tricycle or motor cab impounded until the order is lifted”, the release stated.
