An Elder statesman in Abia state has without fear or favour, stated blankly that if proper test and investigations could be conducted by the health workers in the state, more number of unidentified cases of the dreaded Coronavirus disease would escalate differently from the result announced by the NCDC in conjunction with the government.
Hon. Chief Godfrey Onyemobi made this assertion during an exclusive interview with Famous Reporters, weekend, in Umuahia, the state’s capital, arguing that the government should dig further into ascertaining more incidents of the virus in the state.
Chief Onyemobi who argued that the state suffered from insufficient supply of materials for the conduct of same, urged the Frontline officers to intensify their efforts towards ensuring that Abians are thoroughly tested in order to facilitate effective eradication of the plague from the area.
Hear him: “For instance, as we are seated here, if health workers decide to come here to test everyone, I will give them the permission and I’ll call out everyone, they’ll test them all then leave. That’s what it’s supposed to be be. They have to push. I realise that the materials might not be in abundance.”
He regretted that health workers in Abia state were rather trying to make sure that the limited supply of testing kits are judiciously used to prevent wastage whatsoever, but insisted that all should go through the process of testing so as to ensure that everyone is free from the disease.
“So, they’re trying to limit how they’re going to use it but they should try and push the more. I don’t believe that in Abia state, there are only 10 of them here. I don’t think so, because when they search inside they’ll find more people.”
Meanwhile, he thanked the health workers for their unreserved passion for the people which he reiterated was a major motivation.
“I want to thank the health officers, it’s not easy to endanger your life for other people. There are many people who can’t stand what’s going on but they run the risk. Some of them get infected and fall sick. Some of them die in the process while some survive.
Urged the government to always support and encourage their relentless selfless efforts, insisting, “we should do everything to encourage them and reward them adequately.
He used the medium to appeal to the government on behalf of members of the Third Estate of the Realm, pointing out that they play the watchdog role through their reportorial services, noting that “government should remember them also although they can’t be compared to the health workers who are in the room with the patients”, he said.
