COVID-19: Abia NSCDC Boss Bemoans Insufficient Vans, Absence Of Govt’s Assistance

The state Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Abia State Command, Umuahia has implored the government of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu to provide the command with Hilux Vans to facilitate mobility as they dutifully and effectively assist government to curb the protracted fight against the global COVID-19 Pandemic

Speaking with Famous Reporters in his office, Barrister Nwannukwu Nnamdi C. lamented that the command had not received any form of palliative from the government, noting that the command under his watch, has been working assiduously towards ensuring total enforcement by the public.

NSCDC Boss regretted that the absence of sufficient Hilux poses a great challenge to the command as conveyance of his men becomes an uphill task during monitoring.


“Our major challenge is mobility. There is no sufficient Hilux Vans to convey our boys to the various designated site. We also expect the government to assist the command with things like hand sanitizers, hand gloves, Nose masks. The ones we have are the little we were able to provide. We have not received any assistance from the government since the lockdown.”

He disclosed that the command had in synergy with their sister security outfits in the state, as part of enforcement deployed some proactive measures prior to lockdown order and social distancing policy.

“We had before government’s policies, sensitised citizens on the need for social distancing and regular use of hand sanitizer. Also, we had embarked on daily checking of vehicles and tricycles to ensure that social distancing is duly observed.

Earlier, in a press statement signed by the Command’s spokesman, DSC Ndukwe Agu Egwu and made available Famous Reporters, the Commandant revealed that not fewer than 250 of his men had been deployed in strict compliance with the directive of the Commandant- General of the Corps, Abdulahi Gana Mohammed, in the ongoing fight against the spread of COVID-19.

According to Barr. Nwannukwu, the 250 personnel represent the contribution of Abia State Command to the overall 9,500 personnel the Corps has deployed Nationwide to curtail further spread of the deadly virus through the enforcement of the restriction order.

“To ensure that all hands are  on deck towards the war against further spread of the virus, the Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Heads of Operations and other relevant Departments and Units have been directed to mobilize staff under them to ensure full compliance with the the Federal Government’s directives.

“We are also collaborating with other Sister Security Agencies and Ministry of Health to achieve the desired goals in the state”, he added.
