COP27 ENERGY SUMMIT: FGN/GCIP to provide technology innovation platform for Clean energy SMEs, others, MSSTI, Ikoh

The honourable Minister of State, for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh says the GEF funded UNIDO Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) will provide the requisite technology innovation platforms specifically tailored for and targeted to clean energy technologies, Start-ups and SMEs.

Speaking during the launch of Global Clean Tech Innovation Programme (GCIP) by UNIDO MD and Ministers of partnering countries, Ikoh posited that the urgent need for innovations was propelled by the hike in the demand for energy to power industries, critical infrastructure, homes, and businesses.

Hear him: “The global increase in demand for energy to power industries, critical infrastructure, homes, and businesses particularly in emerging economies, had necessitated an urgent need for innovations, “that would get the world closer to becoming more energy efficient and sustainable”.

 

Below are the remarks by the Honourable Minister in detail…

“The GEF funded UNIDO Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) is built around adopting an innovative approach to enabling the cleantech ecosystem by harmonising the contributions of critical actors while fostering an attractive business environment for the startups, SMEs and Innovators.

“As Nigeria’s statutory Agency for all Science, Technology and Innovation matters, the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) is working with the private sector represented in this project by the Co- Creation Hub, a leading innovation hub in Africa, and UNIDO and the Rural Electrification Agency ( REA) to scale up transformative cleantech solutions in Nigeria.

“The GCIP being launched today will therefore provide the requisite technology innovation platforms specifically tailored for and targeted to clean energy technologies, Start-ups and SMEs.
