INDIANAPOLIS — Colts owner Jim Irsay keeps finding ways to pitch in during Indiana’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Irsay announced Sunday on his Twitter account that he’d obtained 10,000 N95 masks, the respiratory masks critical to protect doctors and nurses working with COVID-19 patients.

The Colts owner is donating the masks to the Indiana State Department of Health to be distributed to the hospitals where  they are most urgently needed.

Irsay has been relentlessly positive and charitable since the beginning of the outbreak. When schools first shut down, Irsay challenged Indiana residents to donate $200,000 to Gleaners Food Bank and matched it with $1 million to help feed children at risk of losing the meals they had been getting at school.

Irsay has also continued his impromptu giveaways on Twitter, handing out cash on at least three occasions. He also has used his Twitter account to support local restaurants and raise awareness of local developments in the fight against coronavirus, and recorded a message urging fans to stay at home that he completed with a rendition of the Bob Seger song “Turn the Page.”

According to a New York Times database, Indiana has had 4,411 coronavirus cases and 127 deaths as of Sunday afternoon.
