The renowned author of the famous used secondary school Physics textbook, and “father of Astronomy in Nigeria”, Professor Pius Nwankwo Okeke will celebrate his 83rd birthday on October 15.
It is no longer news that Professor Okeke’s contributions to science education and research have been impactful in the country thus making him a true icon in Nigerian academia.

Professor Okeke’s journey in science began with his admission to study Physics at the University of Lagos, which was later transferred to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, due to the Nigerian Civil War. He graduated with a second-class upper degree in Physics in 1971 and went on to become the first person to earn a PhD from the University of Nigeria in 1975. His academic prowess and research excellence have earned him numerous accolades, including
