A former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, is dead.
Nwaoboshi, a prominent Nigerian politician from Delta State, served as the senator representing Delta North in the Nigerian Senate from 2015 to 2023.
His death marks the end of a political career that was both influential and, at times, contentious.
Born in 1958, Senator Nwaoboshi rose to national prominence through his legislative engagements and political activities within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected during the 2019 general elections, but his victory was initially nullified by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over allegations that he was not validly nominated by his political party.
However, the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned the ruling on 30 May 2019, reinstating him as senator. In its judgement, the appellate court held that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter, effectively restoring Nwaoboshi’s mandate.
