The National Association of University Students, on Thursday, relieved the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 13, Danmalam Mohammed, of the blame of threatening the life of a business woman, one Mrs Uju Ohanenye.

Mrs Ohanenye had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on the alleged involvement of Mohammed, in a land tussle between her and some persons in Enugu State.

However, speaking with journalists in Abakaliki, on Thursday, the National Vice President (South-East Zone) of National Association of University Students, Comrade Dika Nwachukwu, frowned over the petition and said it was a sponsored attempt to assassinate the character of the AIG.

According to Nwachukwu, “Mrs Ohanenye’s petition against the hardworking AIG, Zone 13, Danmalam Mohammed, is an attempt to assassinate his character.

“The AIG’s investigation carried out some years back, indicted Mrs. Uju Ohanenye, who is a notorious land grabber and she is towing the path of detractors and allowing herself to be used as an agent of distractions. This is not how to pay back the South-East Police chief, who has distinguished himself in ensuring and sustaining peace in the region.

“AIG Danmalam is a blessing to Ndigbo; he has shown his love for Igbos and has distinguished himself as a patriotic and detribalised Nigerian. His footprints are evident, his antecedents as Commissioner of Police previously, as well as his strides as AIG in charge of our Zone, is laudable. As the leader of University students in South-East, I urge Mrs. Ohanenye to desist from the track of character assassinations and distractions and immediately tender a letter of apology to the public, as AIG Muhammed needs all the love and support of all Igbo’s and not paid distractions.

“I urge the Inspector-General of Police to overlook this irresponsible and irrelevant petition against the hardworking AIG, as nobody else could have piloted the affairs of Zone13 more than Muhammed.

“I thank President Muhammadu Buhari for approving and instituting strong security network in Igbo land. This feat will not just guarantee safety of the Igbos, but will equally energised the love Ndigbo have for the President.

“I equally call on the President to ensure speedy reopening of Nigerian universities by first week of next month, to ensure that university student gets back to campus.”
