The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Abia State chapter has made reservations on the particular zone that would produced the next Governor in 2023, while preparing for its statewide elective Congresses.
Addressing Newsmen at the party’s Secretariat, Umuahia, shortly after a one day meeting of the state Executive council members, wards and council Chairmen as well as members of the state congress organising committee members, Sir Johnson Onuigbo, the organising Committee Chairman, assured that the party would do a proper homework for the conduct of the state congress, as well as abide by the party’s guidelines particularly as it concerns zoning.
Sir Onuigbo who also served as the state stressed that PDP family were in the know of where governorship slot for 2023 would be zoned to and that it would be disclosed when the time comes.
According to him, the committee has brainstormed on how to organize an uninterrupted, successful statewide elective Congresses, revealing that the ward and council Congresses will come up on March 14 and March 21, this year respectively.
“That of the state will be held on April 11, 2020 at a venue to be announced later”, he said.
“Forms for the state congresses are ready but in line with the PDP tradition, the party knows how to harmonize and protect various interests as not to shortchange anyone at the end”, he added.
Sir Onuigbo said that in line with the affirmative action and being a gender conscious party, the PDP has increased the number of women in the Exco to 35 percent from the ward to the National level.
